Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of Louis Vuitton's Femme collections, is reported to have been named Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur during a ceremony presided over by President Emmanuel Macron, according to the Journal du Luxe. L'intronisation reportedly took place on Friday, 2 October, in the middle of Paris Fashion Week.

This distinction would recognise more than a decade of creative work at Louis Vuitton (LVMH), for a designer who also spent fifteen years at Balenciaga. The ceremony reportedly brought together, among others, actresses Catherine Deneuve and Marina Foïs.

The nomination is part of the traditional honours promotion of the Légion d'honneur, unveiled in January 2026, which recognised 616 women and men working in the public interest. This New Year 2026 promotion had already honoured several major figures from the fashion and luxury sector, underscoring the cultural and economic weight of the industry.

Among those named to the rank of chevalier are also Céline Brucker, chief executive of L'Oréal France, Nathalie Célia-Kock-Chevalier, chief executive of Bucherer France, as well as Diana Widmaier Picasso, co-founder and artistic director of the jewellery brand Menē. Ralph Toledano, former president of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode and former head of iconic houses such as Karl Lagerfeld, Guy Laroche and Chloé, was for his part promoted to Officier of the Légion d'honneur.
