Chanel has announced the appointment of Lucia Pieroni as creative director for the whole of its make-up business, according to a statement issued by the brand. She will take up the role this September.

Lucia Pieroni will report directly to Simona Cattaneo, who has been president of Chanel's Fragrance & Beauty division since last year. Alain Wertheimer, global executive chairman, and Leena Nair, global chief executive officer, believe the new director's expertise will bring a fresh outlook to the Maison.

« Lucia possède un instinct extraordinaire pour la beauté. Elle perçoit l'individualité dans chaque visage et comprend avec précision comment la révéler en créant un maquillage qui paraît intuitif et expressif, tout en célébrant toujours la singularité », said Simona Cattaneo. For her part, Lucia Pieroni wrote on her Instagram account: « Je suis ravie de pouvoir enfin vous dire que j'ai été nommée directrice artistique maquillage chez Chanel. »

A career built between Londres, New York and the catwalks

The British artist had already made her mark by creating the runway looks for Chanel since the arrival of designer Matthieu Blazy, artistic director of the Maison since 2025, whose first fashion collection for Chanel was presented in October 2025. Lucia Pieroni moved to New York in 1995. In 2006, she took over creative direction of make-up at Clé de Peau (part of the Shiseido group), where she remained for around twelve years. Since then, she has taken on numerous collaborations with couture Maisons such as Versace, Givenchy and Balmain, notably under the direction of Sarah Burton at Givenchy, where she also appeared in the winter 2025 campaign.

She is notably responsible for the much-noticed « Sea Urchin Lashes », XXL fringed lashes in sea-urchin, coral or sand style, introduced at the Croisière show presented in Biarritz last May.

A position already held by notable figures

The make-up creative director role was previously embodied by Lucia Pica starting in 2015. In 2022, Chanel partnered with a trio of emerging talents to bring a collaborative approach to its cosmetics. As part of her new responsibilities, Lucia Pieroni will work alongside the make-up creation studio.

This appointment comes as the Maison has just launched a new fragrance called Coco Mademoiselle Crush Absolu. According to the financial report published by the Chanel group in May 2026, fragrance and skincare were the main drivers of performance for the Parfums Beauté business, with the company citing in particular the success of Chance Eau Splendide, the first new women's fragrance launched in eight years.
